Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Trailer

There were many great surprises to come out of the Comic-Con at San Diego, with mostly Marvel news grabbing the headlines. For fans of Middle-Earth there was also the reveal of the new trailer for Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2. 

There were mixed reactions from fans about the first season. Due to the huge budget for the show the expectations were extremely high, with people expecting to tune in every week to see a piece of Tolkien’s world without limitations. The imagery was without doubt beautiful, whilst seeing places like Moria and Númenor brought to live was spectacular. However at times the pacing was off and also strong deviations from some of the lore from the books. This in particular was felt hard by Tolkien purists. 

Things to look out for

What we can see from the new trailer is a return for some of the favourites from the first season. Galadriel and Elrond return with the latter looking much more ready for combat, after being more a diplomat in the first season. Sauron is back and with a new guise. There is trouble in Númenor and Moria. The Stranger is back and one long anticipated new comer (or old comer) is Tom Bombadil. Tom was one of the few characters cut from the Peter Jackson trilogy whom fans very much wished to see. Ever since his literary creation, by Tolkien fans have had the same question, what exactly is he? Is he an elf, or a Maiar, or maybe even a Valar? 

This is something which has never been officially answered. Given the first season’s openness to interpretation on pre-existing lore, is this revelation something the Amazon Prime show will attempt to own?
